Surgery Day is over

We are so glad to have this day behind us. Right now we are resting in our room. Eamonn's just gotten a new round of pain meds, had some ice cream, and zonked out while watching Monsters movies from the fabulous HCMC children's dvd library. They also brought him a bag of toys for us to keep. There's two big play areas here too, for when he's up & feeling better.

Best check-in nurse ever. Brought him an adorable little suitcase with a journal, stickers & handed him the tv remote. He was super happy.

We got to meet his nurses, the anesthesiologist, his assistant, OR assistants, and our surgeon's assistant all prior to the surgery. It was nice to meet all the wonderful people who would be taking care of our baby.

His surgeon has been his pediatric urologist of the last two years, so we knew her very well & were very grateful to have her. She said everything went as expected & we have a champ.

Tuckered out little man. He's in a toddle sized crib with walls high enough that he can't roll out.

They'll keep watching him over night for signs of discomfort & make sure the fluids are flowing through him. Over the course of the morning, we'll see how he's feeling. If he's good, we'll try removing the catheter & see if he can pee regularly on his own. If so, they'll be able to let us take him home later tomorrow afternoon. If he's not doing that well yet, we may have to stay another night. No biggie. The room is great & has places for two to sleep. Rachel is here, but staying at the apartment. We've had tons of offers from friends for anything we need. So we feel very taken care of.

His surgeon and his regular pediatrician are both planning to stop by & check in sometime tomorrow morning. That's in addition to the urologists and pediatricians who are on-call & checking him every half hour. It's been a huge comfort to know how many folks were thinking of us & our precious monkey today. Thank you.
